Well, the term "Original KIA" means "before any DRM", does it not?

Many times can one roll and Original KIA, only to have it turn into 
something else (K, 2MC, 1MC) after the application of appropriate DRM.

Of course.  The "Original KIA" is merely a mechanism for activating the 
Shellhole placement.  Original DR are used a lot in this way.

Actually, the phrase means what it says (taking "Original KIA" to mean the 
same thing as "Original DR that equals a KIA"), but it also means "before 
adding any modifiers to reach the Final DR".  Who knows what the Final DR 
might be, based upon TEM, Hindrance, etc.

I don't like it, actually.  But that's what it says, don't you know...
