"Lots"? I don't think there are "lots" of differences. Let's have a look.

First an AFV beneath a Trench.

B27.51: "... but 5/8" counters may not be removed from that trench counter
during play..."

B27.52: "Any vehicle beneath a trench counter is considered HD, but may not
change its VCA or expend a Start MP."

Not a lot mentioned there. Interestingly, an AFV beneath a Trench is still
considered Mobile (per Index) because it is not Abandoned, Bogged,
Immobilized, or Mired, even though an AFV beneath a Trench is not able to
leave that hex or change VCA. Hmm.

Now for a Dug-In AFV.

D9.5: "... is considered the equivalent of an Immobile tank in every way..."
With implications for CC (-1 CC DRM against it). That's one difference.

D9.51: "... Immobilization TC are never required." Presumably, neither are
they required for an entrenched AFV, since an Immobilization could never
occur (HD, dont' you know).

D9.54: "... is HD to all Direct Fire attacks... has a +1 Target Size ...
does not create a Hindrance... does not leave a *wreck* Hindrance..." So
the HD effect is the same, and an AFV beneath a Trench also does not leave a
Hindrance (see the penultimate sentence of D9.4). The only difference here
is the +1 Target Size for being Dug-In.

The only other difference I can think of is that a Dug-In AFV is considered
an Armored Cupola and thus does not have a VCA for purposes of DC Placement.
For an entrenched AFV, I would say that Target Facing for a DC is
determined as per A23.5. Come to think of it, I'm not sure how Target
Facing would be handled for a Dug-In AFV, since according to the C7.346 DC
Placement Table the Target Facing DRM is based upon the Hull.

>From what I can see, these are the only differences between a Dug-In AFV and
an AFV beneath a Trench: The Dug-In AFV is considered Immobile (for CC
purposes), the Dug-In AFV has an automatic +1 Target Size (unless actually
+2), and a potentially quirky situation for placing a DC on a Dug-In AFV.

Not much difference after all.

Have I missed something?

Regards,
Bruce Bakken
