[ASLML] Definition of [Friendly] Unit and firing at your own

Hello all,

In a game of TOT37 I am having considerable trouble using the Fkl B IV in
anything remotely resembling an efficient way to try and blast my opponent's
blasted mines!

Having parked a Funklenk in a Minefield but having no Controlling AFV
available to Drop the DC or Command Detonate it, I wonder if I can fire on it
so as to blow it and its DC up?

Per D5.41 and D5.411 I can Abandon an AFV and destroy it in the process. Once
turned into a non-Burning Wreck, may I fire on said Wreck to try and create a
Burning Wreck? (and thus detonate the DC!)


A7.4 prevents fire on friendly units unless specifically permitted. There is
no such specific permission that covers the above that I can see. It
therefore begs the question: is a voluntarily created Wreck still a friendly
unit? Common sense says no, but where is the rule?

This question led me to look at the definition of a Unit in the Index:
essentially any counter with its own MF/MP capable of unassisted movement. A
Wreck is not capable of movement under any circumstances so can not be
considered a "Unit" at all, whether friendly or not. I must therefore
conclude that once Abandoned and Wrecked, I may fire on my former AFV.



However suppose I did not invoke D5.411 and merely Abandoned the AFV? Does
being Abandoned count as capable of movement? D.7 seems to say no, being
Abandoned counts as being Immobile (and concurs with the Index definition of
Immobile).

But surely being Immobile is not the same as not being capable of movement?
Otherwise all Stunned/Shocked/Immobilised friendly vehicles would suddenly
become valid targets for our other units (should we want them to be), which
is nuts!

Does anyone have a better definition of "Unit" available? I tried browsing
Scott Romanovski's Q&A compilation from 2002 but that did not trawl up
anything on the subject.
