Ah, Seth, Seth, Seth... :-)
According to the rules, if a unit is moving and an enemy with LOS could=20
apply the -1 FFMO DRM during a hypothetical Defensive First Fire attack,=20
then you lose concealment. FFMO applies as specified for each type of=20
movement; e.g. for movement in an Open Ground "hex", for Bypass through a=
n=20
Open Ground "hexside", and for movement through the "vertex" of one Rowho=
use=20
to an attached Rowhouse. But *not* for movement across an Open Ground=20
hexside when moving from one obstacle to another, and *not* for a Snap Sh=
ot,=20
rightly or wrongly (which you pointed out earlier). I know you don't lik=
e=20
it, but that's how it is.
In the example you cited above, please ask yourself this: would such a un=
it=20
qualify for FFMO? Ever? No? Then concealment is not lost.
Because of your extensive arguments, I am certain that you know this, and=
=20
are trying only to make a point. Your point has been made, especially as=
=20
regards the lack of FFMO for a Snap Shot. :-) ;-)
The use of the term Open Ground really sucks in ASL. One term is being u=
sed=20
multiple ways, sometimes not consistently. (By definition, a "hex" inclu=
des=20
*all* of its hexsides and vertices... so a Woods "hex" is not an Open Gro=
und=20
"hex", even though a Woods "hex" may have an Open Ground "vertex"... it g=
ets=20
strange, if you start to break it down.
Just remember this, you lose concealment if FFMO applies. Period. Again=
, I=20
think you know that. ;-)
Take care,
Bruce Bakken
(PS I *really* thought hard about pitching a major beef about the definit=
ion=20
of Open Ground and its use in the ASLRB. I decided against it as being=20
unhelpful. Suffice it to say that I believe two terms should have been=20
defined: terrain devoid of obstacles or hindrances, e.g. hex center; and=20
terrain considered open enough to cause concealment loss, e.g. hexsides a=
nd=20
vertex... <sigh>... oh, well.)
