Yes, of course you're correct.  Once you gain control, you retain it until 
the opponent gains control.

Yep, you're right.

Now, going back to your original question...

I don't have a 1st Ed. handy, perhaps the control wording there will shed 
some light on the intent of "sole control".  Seems to me that "sole control" 
means the very stringent application of "and no enemy units in the 
building", but of course I don't know that for sure.
