I had read this account somewhere else, and was thinking about it last
night!

The Germans nailed em good while they tried a crossing there and it was a
bloody disaster....I seem to recall the account mentioning the river
becoming more 'Rapido' as the engagement progressed. Many were simply
washed downstream it would seem.

We were going to play this scenario from HOB' "Fortress Cassino" today, but
a couple of questions came up and we decided to pass on it and pick
something else. Specifically:

SSR 2: "The Germans have Level C Boobytrap capability." Presumably that's
across all three boards -- Boobytraps are normally specified per board.

Per boards 43 and 9.

SSR 4 says to place overlay OG1 on 43EE1. Trouble is, 43EE1 is already OG,
so what's the point? Either it's the wrong overlay or the wrong position.
It then goes on to say place OG5 on "43O7-40O8". That's not possible -- is
it board 43, or board 40?

OG1 is 40EE1 OG5 is 43O7-43O8

SSR 6 says "The Armored Cupola's MA is treated as a CMG". What exactly does
this mean? That it's not an AC after all, but instead a Dug-In Tank? Why
not just say so? Or does it simply mean that it can fire at 17-24 hexes
without leader direction?

Only the additional range

I also have a concern with the Historical Aftermath -- it claims the 1st
Battalion, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division were lost without
trace. Is that what the official history says? Because a whole Battalion
is a mighty big thing to lose "without trace"! No bodies? No discarded
items of equipment? Not even a helmet? Somebody somewhere is exaggerating
just a tad, methinks ....

It has been a while and I don't have all nor time to look at my notes on
this, but
Bloody river, Martin Blumenson, Houghton Mofflin Company Boston 1970 (1st)

-Thus, there was nothing to be done. To the men who had crossed the Rapido,
January 21 was a long and ugly day. "Their whereabouts were never
determined," Wyatt wrote forty-eight hours later, "since all atempts to
establish communications...where unsuccessful."
