Yeah, this sounds about like the CGIII I just conceded to Jeff Barber last month.
Except that I (the German in question) never got any leaders better than a 9-1, while my erstwhile opponent had at least two 9-2s.
I suspect that there is secret code in VASL to assure that the highest-ranking German leader consistently fails MCs and TCs (or, barring that, rolls the Russian sniper... I nicknamed the Russian 1-3 sniper Zaitsev, for obvious reasons....)

Generally, no. They're *really good* for passing 3 & 4MCs ... but usually
incapable of passing anything lower. They pin real good, too.
