Well I'll provide a counter point to this.

IMHO, I hate this feature.  I do not want it checking for updates.  I want
to control when I update.  As a network administrator, I always wait a few
days before applying patches.  Bugs always creep in.

Its not a huge deal as I have DSL, but I know if I had dial-up I would want
to control when I downloaded large files.

I did not check, if you cancel the update, does VASL still open?
