The map is "hidden" in the bottom of the main vasl window... I had to play
with it a bit to find it. However, see below...

Edit your "Preferences" and you can have to multiple window setup. This
should also solve your "map" problem.

Many people are having problems installing... here are my notes.
In other words.
1. Install Java 1.4. Go to http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp and
click on "Get it now" (Install Java for the desktop). When asked if you want
to "integrate with your desktop" (or something like that) you have to say
"yes". After you've installed this, then Windows will know what to do with
the vassal.jnlp file (it will know how to install the new engine.)
2. Go to http://vasl.org/download.htm and click on the "Click here
to launch the latest version of VASL.
This will create a new VASSAL - completely different install from the
previous version. So you can run either one. This threw me for a second
because I clicked on my old desktop link and the old version came up.
Let me know if still have problems. not sure if I can help, but I'll try.
