No, not obvious.  Consider a stack in the following order, from top down: 
"?" (any size), 5/8 "?", 1/2 "?".  What does it look like to your opponent?

A Gun and a Crew?  Perhaps.  But not necessarily.  You know the top counter 
is a "?" counter; all you know about the second counter is that it is 5/8".

It could very easily be a vehicle accompanied by Infantry.  I almost always 
use 1/2 "?" on my vehicles.   For one thing, there are more of the 1/2 "?".  
For another thing, it covers all information on the counter, anyway, and 
fits nices on a turret counter.  I also use 1/2 "?" on my Guns.

Like I said, I've lost track of "Bruces"...  I certainly don't have a House 
Rule for concealment counters.

You can place OB-designated "?" using any size counter you want.  It's up to 
your opponent to figure out what it all means.  It just has to make sense 
within the context of your setup forces.  And really, there are more valid 
combinations than might be readily apparent.
