My first post to the "new" list, so we'll see how far this makes it....
First, thanks for getting this set-up. I assumed everyone was just in a post ASLOK stupor,
but see from the flurry of posts that was probably not true. So, thanks for getting us back
up and running!
I noticed that I have to "forward" this email on the web interface to reply to the
ASLML. I think this was discussed before with people on both side, but put me down on
the side of "When I reply I want to reply to the list, and possibly CC the individual" as
opposed to replying to the individual and having to manually CC the list.
I get the attachments as well...I use Eudora to read the mail usually. Is this something
that can be changed? I am not worried about a routine attachment, but if attachments
generally can be routed through the list then I think that is a potential problem. All
it would take is one person to get a virus and forward it to the list and now we'll all
get it sent to us. Yes, McAfee or Norton should take care of it, but IMO, it shouldn't have
to. We've been fine without attachments on the list, I don't see the need now. That and
while I appreciate that some people may like seeing screen shots and all kinds of other
nifty things someone might attach to a message, I don't want to have to wait while
downloading a bunch of attached files from the ASLML.
Lastly, moderation.... I think if it is in a similar manner to the "old" list, that is fine, where
it was applied relatively infrequently and to topics that were completely OT. But if it is
going to be used to screen for "tone" or "POV" then I am absolutely against it. For that matter,
I someone judgmentally censors a post on something that they think is OT, then they had
better be certain that they edit 100% of OT posts. otherwise, you are censoring an
individual, not limiting content to "on-topic." IMO, allowing users to choose which messages
they do and do not read is the way to go. Hitting Ctl-D takes less time than it takes to read
this...and I think everyone knows who they think should be ignored, and probably spends all
of about 1/2 of 1 second saying "Oh, another post from that idiot Fancher" and deletes it.
JMO.

Whoa,
Didn't know I was up on the soapbox, but free speech is one of the things
that the founding fathers of America convinced a bunch of young men to fight
and die for. Others have done the same to preserve it. I don't want anyone
taking that away from me or any of you. Will we be burning e-copies of
Fahrenheit 451 next? :P
Off thread topic: My messages seem to be getting through a lot better, so
kudos/thanks to those who made that possible.
/steps down
Will
