If on the other hand you want a detailed breakdown of why Jim's
interpretation of A7.52 accords very nicely with the actual rule, I refer
you to several posts to the ASLML over the last few days, specifically those
written by myself, Chris Fleury, Kenneth Knudsen, Andrea Fantozzi, and one
or two others.
Using that line of reasoning, it's a wash.
Rule A7.52 can easily and demonstably be interpreted in two different ways.
Stubborn denial of that possibility does not lend credence to an argument to
the contrary.
An utterance by Perry on the ASLML does not negate the inherent uncertainty
of what's written in the rule, nor does it preclude the possibility of
multiple interpretations in the future. More than just "this is how it is
supposed to be played", the true goal should be to remove any initial
uncertainty in the first place.
The data has shown me that a viewpoint on this matter that expresses an
unwillingness to concede an alternate possible interpretation -- whether
expressed from *either* side -- can be dismissed as irrelevant and
non-contributing rhetoric, IMO.
