I would think that if you blew up the maps some that
were previously unblocked would become blocked, that
is if you kept the size of your string constant and
did not scale it with the size of the map, or had
difficulty centering your string on larger dots.  

Think about it, if LOS is blocked only when the
terrain depiction is on the other side of the string,
an area where your string covered the corner but did
not show the corner on the other side, would
definitely now show the corner on a large map...
because the relative width of the string has
decreased.
