Gentlemen,
West Coast Melee VII, the largest ASL event in the Western U.S., is coming
up soon. We have an all-new location and an all-new format this year.
Please join us from February 5th through the 8th, 2004 at the Crowne Plaza
Hotel in Irvine, right across from John Wayne Airport.
West Coast Melee will begin on Feb. 5th with "Recon Thursday". Starting at
noon, we'll have a small ballroom available where early arrivals can play
pick-up games for fun. Starting at 3:00 pm we'll open the "Command Bunker",
a lounge area where players can get a beer or soda, have a sandwich
(compliments of SoCalASL) and socialize with their fellow ASL'ers. The
ballroom and Command Bunker will be open throughout the evening.
The Melee will start on Friday morning at 9:00 am with the "Close Combat
Phase". Throughout the day, players can freely match themselves in
open-style competition, and report each completed game to the T.D. Starting
on Saturday morning, the 16 players who have compiled the best overall
records (using the Chicago system) from the Close Combat Phase will enter
the "Hand to Hand" phase of The Melee. This will be a four-round single
elimination tournament that will culminate with a championship match on
Sunday morning. For the rest of us mortals who don't make it into the Hand
to Hand phase on Saturday, there will be several mini-tournaments, open play
and a big team Campaign Game.
Then, of course, there's all the stuff you've come to expect from West Coast
Melee: A late-night playing of the "Hero Game", our "7-0 Leaders" program
for new and rusty players, cool plaques, full color "Surfing Soldier"
tee-shirts, ASL Bingo, the Team Competition, and our newest program "ASL
Jeopardy".
Our new location at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Irvine is located directly
across from John Wayne Airport (with a complimentary shuttle). Hotel rooms
are only $79 per night, including breakfast. If you're driving, parking is
only $4 per day.
The Pre-registration pack can be downloaded directly from our Web Site at:
www.SoCalASL.com. You can also register on-line using paypal, and make your
hotel registration from our site as well.
We hope you can join us.
Regards,
Jim Aikens
Pres. SoCalASL
