I believe he would possess the weapon. But, I've been wrong before. :)

If you are fired at as you expend MPs to enter a building and you are
pinned. Do you end up outside the building? No. The "general rule" is that
you complete the act that allows the defensive first fire. There are a few
exceptions: Placing a DC comes to mind as one.
