Of course not.  That is specifically disallowed by the FPF rules.

Final Fire, however, *is* possible vs. non-adjacent units, which is why the
"adjacent units" phrase is added.  (Remember, "Final Fire" is *all* fire
that takes place in the Defensive Fire Phase.)
